Sam Rayburn, in the piney woods of East Texas is one of the top lakes in the nation for winter time fishing because of our usually mild winter and abundance of hydrilla grass which is excellent BASS HABITAT. This makes Big Sam a favorite destination for our northern anglers wanting to escape the GRIP of a long winter.

During the winter months of 2006/07, I guided 4 anglers to their personal largest bass ever. Largemouth bass weighing 7 to 10 pounds are not uncommon and tournament anglers must bring in 5 bass limits weighing in excess of 20 pounds to secure a win. One of the most common methods of angling used during this time of year is to fish Lipless Crank Baits over the grass. I furnish new, 7 to 1 ratio Bait Casting reels, graphite rods and all lures. These lures are fished very fast over the grass tops therefore the high speed reels will make this method of fishing easier. Usually during the winter months the grass is submerged due to winter rains, making this angling technique very effective.

Considering the price of fuel, this WINTER TIME SPECIAL is a great bargain, making a guided trip an excellent Birthday, Christmas or Anniversary GIFT.
